Irving Fisher, convinced that changes in the purchasing power of money were responsible for most economic problems, believed passionately in socio-economics benefits of a stable price level and made the idea of 'stable money' his 'earliest and most persistent crusade' (Niehans, 269).

The aim of the present work was to provide a complete history of early attempts towards inaugurating a stable currency in order to prevent the extremes of inflation and deflation. It also covers the then present status of the stable money movement throughout the world, and discusses recent experiences with a 'Managed Currency' abroad. The book was co-written with Hans R. L. Cohrssen and was originally published in America earlier in the same year under the title 'Stable Money'.
