Lewis’s dedication to the Earl of Moira from Inverary Castle, October 27th., 1804. “Lewis frequently visited the fifth Duke of Argyll at Inverary, and there according to his biographer, fell in love with the duke’s daughter, Lady Charlotte, married June 1796 to Colonel Campbell, and at her house he first met Scott in 1798” (DNB). “The Bravo of Venice” was dramatised as “Regantino”, a melodrama, and was produced at Covent Garden in 1805.
