Access within the building
The modern department and board room are on the ground floor. Once inside, there are no steps to access either of these rooms. We have a lift that services the basement and the half-landings of the building. However, if you are hoping to visit any other departments besides the Modern department, please be aware that there are steps to access the Travel, Early British, Early Continental, and Human Sciences departments. From the lift (on the relative half-landings) there are 16 steps to the first floor (3 down and 13 up to the Travel, Early British, and Early Continental departments); and 15 steps to the second floor (Human Sciences departments).

Potentially inaccessible areas
If you would like to view books from the Travel, Early British, Early Continental, or Human Sciences departments, please be advised that there are steps to access these areas. If you are a wheelchair user or have limited mobility, please let us know your areas of interest in advance—we would be happy to set up a viewing in the board room on the ground floor.

Toilets
The accessible toilet is situated in the basement and is accessed via the lift. It has an emergency pull cord, support rails, and a lowered sink with a lever tap. There are also toilets located on each half landing (next to the lift), although these are all, without exception, small spaces with no additional accommodations.

Curzon Street is lined by paving slabs on either side, uneven and narrow in places.

The local area is highly populated by pedestrians and road-users at all times but particularly between 7:30-9:00 and 17:00-19:00.

There is step-free access from the pavement into the shop, though the door has a 1-inch sill at the bottom.

Entry is via a wooden door (34 inches wide) with a self-closing hinge and, therefore, requires moderate force to push/pull. There is a buzzer for assistance (34.5 inches high).

Access within the building
Once inside, there is a small, recessed coir entrance mat followed by wooden floorboards throughout. The shop is set on one floor with flat access to all areas.

There is a sanitiser dispenser activated by motion-sensor (53 inches high) by the entrance.

Our bookshelves are of varying heights, with some material atop tall shelves or placed in window displays. A member of Maggs staff will be happy to retrieve any items for you.

As the smaller of our two shops, Curzon Street is unsuitable for large groups of people, and, owing to its size, there are no customer toilet facilities.

The shop is well-lit by natural light, lamps and spotlights on dimmer switches.

There is a central table at which you are welcome to sit and view items. Because footfall fluctuates, we recommend contacting us in advance if you would like to ensure that a chair will be available for you during your visit.
