Beautifully illustrated and perhaps the most comprehensive overview of the Bedouin published to the time. A supplementary volume was published after Von Oppenheim death by his daughter. This is not present.
Oppenheim realised his long held ambition to travel therough the Orient in 1883 when he travelled as far as Constantinople. He made subsequent voyages in 1886 and 1893 when he spend six months in the Arabic quarter of Cairo. He famously found the Aramaic-Assyrian residence of Tell Halaf in 1899 and continued to make trips up until 1927. Throughout his explorations Oppenheim was accompanied by Shammar Beduins and makes valuable observations on their history, customs and religious practises.
