First edition. One photographic plate by Herbert Ponting. 8vo. A crisp copy in publisher's printed wrappers. 16pp. London, W.M. Clowes and Son, 1913.
A poignant exhibition of work by the late Edward Wilson (1872-1912), who took part in two of the most famous Antarctic marches in the Heroic Age: the "worst journey in the world" with Cherry-Garrard and Bowers to retrieve Emperor penguin eggs in the depths of winter at Cape Crozier; he was also a member of Scott's Polar Party, which reached the South Pole but perished (all of them) on the return journey.
Held at the Alpine Club Gallery in December 1913, Wilson's watercolours are drawn from his time on the Discovery expedition, 1901-04, as well as Terra Nova, 1910-13. This pamphlet includes a brief biographical introduction and an image by Ponting of Wilson painting in the Antarctic. 268 images were displayed as well as Wilson's sketchbooks.
