An extremely rare panorama and a satisfying collaboration between two women artists.

Vicesmus Lush describes the composition of this panorama in his diary: “Saw Mr Lloyd and Mr and Mrs Abraham at St John’s - the latter still an invalid but in good spirits, and busy when I entered the Bishop’s drawing room painting a panoramic view of St John’s College and all the adjoining buildings, so that her friends in England might have a tolerably clear conception of her present abode.”

The image depicts Bishop’s House and English School with Auckland and Taurarua Point in the distance (left) to the Carpenter’s Shop with One Tree Hill and Mt Eden in the background (right). The lithograph is attributed to Miss Cotton after Caroline Abraham who was responsible for the original panoramic drawing.

OCLC locates a single copy at Cambridge, which dates it 1849. We find another at the Alexander Turnbull Library.
