After some years and experiments on a smaller model, a 10" steel muzzle-loading gun was eventually constructed to Dr. Woodbridge's design. However, flaws were noted in a report on it of 1876. Woodbridge argues that the test gun - a compromise 10" instead of 12" due to budget curtailment - had been poorly constructed. He also suggests that the author of the test report possessed poor health and failing mental powers.
