C17th (?) mottled calf, triple gilt fillet border with fleuron cornerpieces, spine richly gilt with title lettered in second compartment, speckled edges, marble endpapers (worn, joints cracked and chipped, corners bumped).

The final instalment of the Ragionamenti of acerbic writer and poet Pietro Aretino (1492-1556) published by John Wolfe after the first two books of the Ragionamenti in 1584. It contains the final two parts, the Ragionamento delle Corti and del Gioco, or delle Carte Parlanti, as it is better known. This was the first and only edition.

Provenance: Ex-libris of Professor Christopher Cairns on front paste-down; ‘Dolagoutto’ inscribed on title page.

Minor staining to fore edges. A clean copy.
