Churchill's sole attempt at full-length fiction. The British issue from the plates of the American edition published ten days earlier in a printing of 4,000 copies. The first state, identified by the presence of the Longmans imprint on the cancel title page, which is blank in the second state.
A very good copy, W.H. Smith subscription library label to front pastedown, spotting to preliminaries and terminal leaves, short closed tear to fore margins of half title and title not effecting text, slight lean to text block, faint ring stain to front cover, light wear to joints and corners.
