One of 300 numbered copies. With wood engraved frontispiece engraved by John Farleigh. On handmade green-tinted paper by Arnold and Foster. 8vo., 17.4 x 25.3cm, xi, 188pp. Original elaborate publisher's binding designed by Paul Nash, crushed black goatskin, covers with elaborate and abstract design of the Shaw's initials 'G', 'B' and 'S' in orange onlay goatskin, spine lettered in orange. Newtown, Montgomeryshire, Gregynog Press, 1939.
Very good, binding slightly scuffed and faded, internally bright and clean.
Nash's design for the special edition was rejected by the Press Board, which often muddied its volumes by way of 'design by committee'. His binding is refreshingly distinct from contemporary Gregynog books.
