Wilberforce-Bell (1885-1956) has inscribed the half-title: “With the author’s compliments and best wishes. Dharmsala. 11/11/16.”

In the preface, he explains the title as, in 1916, the names of regiments and places “might conceivably probe of value to the enemy” and thus were omitted. Nonetheless, he provides a vivid account of life in the trenches which is improved by his pithy, wry observations.

Rare: OCLC locates copies at BL, Oxford. COPAC adds the IWM.
