Dr. Titus Boeder
Far East – China & Japan
Dr. Titus Boeder has been working for Maggs since 1995 specializing in Far Eastern material - in particular China and Japan. He has a substantial stock of rare Western books relating to Ming and Qing dynasty China as well as important Chinese maps. He is particularly interested in books and documents relating to the flow of scientific, political, and cultural knowledge between East and West, for example Jesuit material printed in China and Japan from the 16th to the 18th century.
Another field of expertise is photographic material from China and Japan: Titus has formed a number of important collections of 20th century Japanese photobooks, covering all the trends in pre-1945 (pictorialism, modernism, avant-garde, and propaganda) as well as the post-war movements of realism, subjectivism, and the individualistic trends of the 70s and 80s.
He is fluent in German, Japanese, and Mandarin.
